I’ve been writing about hope in the face of rising authoritarianism and rising tides, for the last breakneck six months, and I know I need a break. My NGO colleagues are all heading off for their long-planned summer holidays - music festivals in Belgium, visiting family in Italy and France, hiking trips in Switzerland - and once again I find myself alone in the office. Wondering how the hell everyone made these plans while juggling their busy work and life schedules.
For someone who thinks about 2030 and 2050 climate goals constantly, I am incredibly bad at planning even one month ahead, let alone six.
My friends shrug and tell me they had to book their tickets back in January. Then they advise me to just chill out and ‘do something fun.’ You might even hear the phrase rest is resistance to justify taking days off.
