Wow, thank you for this! As a global south migrant in the EU, finding a job on what I actually studied (and actually want to work at) felt delusional and I started crafting the scenario for a future where I continue working at the kitchen I work now (which by it self is a job that has taught me more than many other corporate jobs I had before) I’ll take this post as a signal to not stop looking for what I actually want :3

thank you so much. i'm currently trying to transition out of the corporate for-profit sector. do you have any advice on how to approach my applications? i'm updating my resume and cover letter to highlight translatable skills and my interests.

Exciting that you're making this job transition! I recommend Valentin Dupouey's content on jobhunting (it's EU / advocacy focused but a lot is applicable to NGOs): https://www.linkedin.com/in/valentindupouey/

I also really like Escape the City. It's not entirely NGO-specific but it has plenty of resources on carving out a meaningful job: https://www.escapethecity.org/resources

THANK YOU for a fantastic, super generous list and for putting the term job search burnout / depression on my radar! I read that article on it. (And hi from a fellow communicator for social impact who runs a blog on grief and life on here, cause … life happened 👀) ❤️

I’m glad it’s useful! Yes I think we should be more open about the emotional toll of jobhunting, especially in this sector & this political landscape, and check in on unemployed friends more often. (And hi back!)
